Jamaica 2000

Our agency was fortunate enough to travel to Jamaica 3 times in the year 2000.  Our destinations included
Strawberry Hill in Kingston
Ritz-Carlton in Montego Bay
Breezes Golf & Beach in Runaway Bay
Here are some observations we made from each of our trips.

                            Strawberry Hill, Kingston

Our first visit was in May to participate in the JAPEX show held in Kingston.  This show is a special invite only to a select number of travel agencies.    Hoteliers showcase their lovely properties, what is new at the resorts, informing us of any new renovations.  We stayed at the Kingston Hilton, in the heart of downtown Kingston, Jamaica.   Much to our surprise, the hotel was in an area of culture, history, the real pride of Jamaica.
We visited the elite resort of Strawberry Hill situated in the mists of the Blue Mountains, 3,100 feet above Kingston.   An hour or so drive through very winding, tight curves, or an easy 15 minute helicopter ride.  Once you reach  the property, you are welcomed warmly by a staff that will cater to your every wish and whim.  Our stay was only long enough for a Sunday brunch that was so fulfilling, we didn't want to go back down to the city, we wanted to stay and curl up in their over-stuffed down-filled beds.  The view from the infinity pool overlooking Kingston are breathtaking...to go and have a brunch there was wonderful, to have stayed there would have been magnificent!  Next time if our plans call for a stay in Kingston, it will certainly be at Strawberry Hill.

The mist that covers the Blue Mountains is refreshing after a day in the sun.        All beds come with heating pads underneath the feather-filled pads. Nights can be cool in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica.        Sitting on the edge of the infinity pool overlooking Kingston.

                               Ritz-Carlton Montego Bay

On our second trip to Jamaica we were very fortunate again to be invited to attend the grand opening of the newest resort to the island, the Ritz-Carlton.  This property has been highly anticipated and well worth the wait.
The Ritz-Carlton, the only hotel to have an exclusive, private lounge at the Montego Bay airport, is just as opulent as the Mercedes Benz bus that escorts you to the plush, well manicured grounds of the resort.   Jamaicans with warm bright smiles welcome you to a hotel that can only be described as "The Ritz".  Mahogany flooring with walls to match, beautiful oriental area rugs, furniture from plantations long since gone, and air-conditioning that is unheard of at most island hotels.  The rooms are over-sized, bathrooms with white marble walls and flooring.  The overstuffed featherbed along with the warm and inviting duvet, keeps you toasty during the night, as the air-conditioning in the hotel is quite cool.
The golf course has already been initiated with Shell's Wonderful World of Golf series, featuring Notah Begay and Hal Sutton.  The grounds crew keep the greens greener than the best island garden.  Make some time for yourself to try their Spa facilities for some well deserved pampering.

Upon entering the gates of the Ritz-Carlton, you are transported to a vacation of luxury. The pool area is perfect for unwinding after arrival. Be sure to order a Hummingbird. Yum! Outside cocktails are perfect on the veranda overlooking the pool. The over plump feather bed and feather cover are sure to make anyone sleep better!

Breezes Golf & Beach Resort

Our third trip to Jamaica was met with a new and extended customs area, an improvement that the Sangster Int'l Airport needed!  This trip was considered our "vacation" trip.  We had stayed at Breezes Runaway Bay last November, we like this property as the staff makes you feel like "coming home".
We joined Matthew and Leslie from Texas, also enjoying their stay, and there to get married courtesy of SuperClubs Free Weddings program.
Everything for your wedding is provided for you during your stay at any of the SuperClubs properties.  Diane from Boston was asked to be Maid of Honor, and Winston from the entertainment staff, was Best Man.  Matthew and Leslie were just beaming with delight...as all newlywed couples do. You can view the happy couple and the pictures from their ceremony on the Photo Gallery page.
The golf course, one of the oldest on the island, is a fun course to play and the Caddies are a delight. Caddies are mandatory at a mere $14.00 a round, carts are optional. Play is quick, about 3 hours per round(18 holes).  All in all, Breezes Golf and Beach is a great place to play and have fun!
